This is a CALL FOR ENTRIES for a guerrilla art installation to happen
this weekend, October 14-16, at TOONS, aka CAMP CASEY, aka site of the
1900 CROSSES TO MARK US CASUALTIES IN IRAQ, aka protest site to SHUT
DOWN THE WAR!
We're looking for any artists who are interested in making a statement
about the current war in Iraq, specifically the HUMAN COST OF WAR. For
three weeks we've honored the American casualties, next we'd like to
address the countless others.
We are interested in submissions of any medium, to be installed inside
or around a large canopy, to be on display for three days, Oct 14-16, 24
hours a day. Because of the weather, works made of hardier materials are
preferred.
Mediums for installation can be two dimensional, three dimensional,
audio visual, and interactive.
Performance pieces will be scheduled for Saturday, with an opportunity
to repeat the performances on Sunday.
We're looking for artists to let us borrow, for the weekend, something
they've created which addresses the human cost of war. Not the dollar
cost, nor hopefully just the cost in American lives, but the cost to
humanity, the karmic cost, the legacy of misfortune and tragedy
attendant to war and injustice.
Naturally we would not object to an artist pulling something out of
their past repertoire which they feel would best apply to the theme.
However it will be very cool if said artists would like to put their
creative minds to the task of contriving a fresh message, addressing the
protracted horror in the Middle East with respect to the human costs,
and contrive as eloquently as possible, a call to reason.
This might be most easily extemporized with paint and foam core. Poster
art could be a medium easy enough for anyone to muster. The works
themselves could be slap-dash, the construction even near-disposable;
the idea would be key. This event will showcase the depth of talent of
the local art community, but should most importantly be a collective
call for peace, a call to shut down the war.
Needless to say, as the time is short, every statement against war
will be very welcome!
